TO REQUEST THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION NAME RAIDER ROAD (5-30-497) IN LAURENS COUNTY "JOHN K. HENDRICKS, JR. MEMORIAL MILE", AND ERECT APPROPRIATE MARKERS OR SIGNS ALONG THIS ROAD THAT CONTAIN THE WORDS "JOHN K. HENDRICKS, JR. MEMORIAL MILE".
Whereas, Mr. John Kirkwood Hendricks, Jr., was born in Georgetown County, the son of Reverend John Kirkwood Hendricks, Sr., and Margaret Lewis Hendricks; and
Whereas, he was married to Susan Cain Hendricks, and the father of their daughter Lauren Andrea Hendricks; and
Whereas, he obtain his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Wofford College and a Master's degree in Secondary Administration and Education from Clemson University; and
Whereas, Mr. Hendricks was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Laurens, South Carolina Coaches Association, South Carolina Association of School Administrators, National Association of Secondary School Principals, and a host of other professional and civic organizations; and
Whereas, in his many years of service as an educator he served as a teacher, coach, middle school principal, and, during the three years before his untimely death, a principal of Laurens District 55 High School; and
Whereas, it is fitting and proper to pay tribute to this son of South Carolina by naming a road in Laurens County in his honor. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly request that the Department of Transportation name Raider Road (5-30-497) in Laurens County "John K. Hendricks, Jr. Memorial Mile" and erect appropriate markers or signs along this road that contain the words "John K. Hendricks, Jr. Memorial Mile".
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation.
