A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO URGE THE PROMOTION OF THE SPORT OF CURLING AS AN OFFICIAL WINTER OLYMPIC SPORT OF SOUTH CAROLINA AND TO APPOINT REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE TO INVESTIGATE THE DESIGNATION OF CURLING AS AN OFFICIAL WINTER OLYMPIC SPORT OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, South Carolina derives substantial revenue from tourism; and

Whereas, South Carolina has not designated an official winter Olympic sport; and

Whereas, South Carolina is desirous of determining the potential economic impact of officially designating a specific winter Olympic sport; and

Whereas, industry and jobs are relocating to South Carolina for its business-friendly environment and climate; and

Whereas, curling is a winter Olympic sport that lends itself to the milder climate of South Carolina; and

Whereas, curling is a winter Olympic sport that has the capability to enhance the State's tourism industry and to facilitate attracting new businesses and industry. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, urge the promotion of the sport of curling as an official winter Olympic sport of South Carolina and appoint the following persons to represent the State in investigating the designation of curling as an official winter Olympic sport of South Carolina: Irvin T. "Beau" Welling, IV; James W. Bannister and Kristina E. Bannister; James L. Welch and Ricci Land Welch; Tommy Benston and Katie Benston; and Graham Howle and Marci Howle.
