COMMITTEE REPORT
May 20, 2009
S. 815
S. Printed 5/20/09--H.
Read the first time May 14, 2009.
To whom was referred a Concurrent Resolution (S. 815) to join the South Carolina Fraternal Order of Police in recognizing the week of May 11-15, 2009, as, etc., respectfully
That they have duly and carefully considered the same and recommend that the same do pass:
HERB KIRSH for Committee.
TO JOIN THE SOUTH CAROLINA FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICE IN RECOGNIZING THE WEEK OF MAY 11-15, 2009, AS "NATIONAL LAW ENFORCEMENT WEEK".
Whereas, Monday, May 11, 2009, marks the beginning of "National Law Enforcement Memorial Week" and Wednesday, May 15, is "National Law Enforcement Memorial Day"; and
Whereas, each year officers from around the nation participate in a memorial ride in Washington, D.C. that also marks the beginning of "National Police Week"; and
Whereas, in 1962 Congress established "National Police Week" and each year names are added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial wall in Washington, D.C.; and
Whereas, this is a special time to remember fallen officers and to honor those who valiantly served and gave their lives in the line of duty; and
Whereas, it is fitting for the members of the General Assembly to pause and remember the sacrifices law enforcement officers make every day in this State and across the nation. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly recognizing the week of May 11-15, 2009, as "National Law Enforcement Week".
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the South Carolina Fraternal Order of Police.
