A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE MR. AND MRS. ROBERT DAVIS OF FAIRFIELD COUNTY, UPON THE OCCASION OF THEIR SEVENTY-FIRST WEDDING ANNIVERSARY, AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES FOR MANY MORE YEARS OF BLESSING AND FULFILLMENT.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to learn that Janie and Robert Davis will celebrate their seventy-first wedding anniversary on February 22, 2012; and

Whereas, Robert was born May 13, 1922, Janie was born June 11, 1924, and they have now, in the thoughts of the poet Robert Browning, grown old along with one another; and

Whereas, when as a young boy, Robert Davis would go to prayer service on Friday nights, he always prayed for a good wife, and when he saw Janie the first time, he knew his prayers had been answered; and

Whereas, in 1941, in the month of February when the crocuses and daffodils send their yellow blooms through the cold soil of winter, Janie and Robert Davis pledged to one another a lifetime of love and sharing as they were joined in holy matrimony in Winnsboro, where they were both born; and

Whereas, even though life was not easy for them since Robert was sixteen and Janie was fourteen when they married, through prayer, hard work, and the love they had for each other they weathered the toughest of times; and

Whereas, he served his country with distinction during World War II, and returned to his loving family; and

Whereas, he worked for fifty-nine years before retiring while Janie dedicated herself to making their house a loving home; and

Whereas, together they reared four fine children: Benjamin Franklin, Lonnie, Robbie, and Bertha Ann, who blessed them with seven adoring grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; and

Whereas, devoted members of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Winnsboro, Mr. Davis serves as a deacon and his wife serves as a deaconess; and

Whereas, at the ages of eighty-nine and eighty-seven, the couple still holds hands, and the sparkle is still alive in their marriage that has withstood the test of time; and

Whereas, Mr. and Mrs. Davis advise couples to put God first, communicate, and have a vision for their future and unconditional love for each other in order to have a happy marriage as they have; and

Whereas, no success on earth crowns a life as does a marriage that endures the test of time and grows stronger with each passing year; and

Whereas, Robert Davis has learned the veracity of the proverb, "Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord," and he now considers one of his crowning achievements as having had the good sense to marry his beloved Janie. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Mr. and Mrs. Robert Davis of Fairfield County, upon the occasion of their seventy-first wedding anniversary, and extend best wishes for many more years of blessing and fulfillment.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Davis.
