VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR DR. JOE R. WREN FOR HIS FAITHFUL SERVICE AS PASTOR OF SUMMERVILLE BAPTIST CHURCH UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT FROM ACTIVE MINISTRY ON JUNE 3, 2012, AFTER FORTY-SIX YEARS OF CONTINUOUS PASTORAL MINISTRY.
Whereas, the members of the Senate have learned that Dr. Joe R. Wren, Pastor of Summerville Baptist Church since 1990, will retire on June 3, 2012, after forty-six years of continuous service in pastoral ministry; and
Whereas, Dr. Wren was born on April 12, 1944, in Gaffney South Carolina. He received his B.A. from Winthrop University, a Masters of Divinity from the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministries from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary; and
Whereas, prior to his service in South Carolina, Dr. Wren pastored churches in both North Carolina and Tennessee; and
Whereas, his denominational involvement includes membership on various committees of the Southern Baptist Convention, the Tennessee Baptist Convention, the South Carolina Baptist Convention, and Charleston Southern University - Board of Trustees, member and President; and
Whereas, throughout his ministry, Dr. Wren has also served in various capacities in local Baptist associations, including moderator of associations and president of pastor's conferences; and
Whereas, in his spare time he has enjoyed membership with his local Lions Club, Rotary Club, and Kiwanis and he also enjoys golfing and football; and
Whereas, he and his wife Kaye are the proud parents of three adult children, Beth, Joseph, and Clary, and they also have five grandchildren, Chloe, Cille, JJ, Lilly, and Wren; and
Whereas, the members of the Senate are pleased to have this opportunity to recognize the distinguished career of Dr. Joe R. Wren and to honor the significant contributions of this great South Carolinian. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor Dr. Joe R. Wren for his faithful service as Pastor of Summerville Baptist Church upon the occasion of his retirement from the active ministry on June 3, 2012, after forty-six years of continuous pastoral ministry.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Joe Wren.
