VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR ADDISON AND RUBY MOULTRIE GREENE UPON THE OCCASION OF THEIR BIRTHDAYS, AND TO WISH THEM MANY YEARS OF HEALTH AND HAPPINESS AS THEY CONTINUE TO SHARE THEIR HOME AND THEIR LOVE.
Whereas, the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina are pleased to learn that Addison Greene, Sr., celebrated his ninety-first birthday on May 21, 2012, and that his beloved wife, Ruby Moultrie Greene celebrated her eighty-sixth birthday the day before on May 20, 2012; and
Whereas, born May 21, 1921, Addison Greene, Sr., affectionately known as "Addie" or "Jack," was reared in the Greentown section of the community of Alvin in St. Stephen, where he learned to play the harmonica melodically and work skillfully with his hands; and
Whereas, in 1942, Jack answered the call of his country during the height of World War II and proudly served in the United States Army as a quartermaster in France, Germany, and England until the end of the war. He still speaks French today that he learned during that time and loves to share his war stories; and
Whereas, a homemaker for over thirty years, Ruby Moultrie Greene was born on May 20, 1926, and enjoys gardening, quilting, and cooking, and although her health has declined in recent years, her loving husband is always there assisting her in many ways; and
Whereas, since the early part of the twentieth century, they have been witness to nearly all the remarkable social changes, technological advancements, and international developments that have spanned the globe from that time into the second decade of the twenty-first century; and
Whereas, Jack Greene still drives himself around and attends the Alvin Senior Center weekly, and although he would like to see the new National World War II Memorial in the nation's capital, he refuses to leave his wife's side; and
Whereas, Addison and Ruby Greene reared eleven fine children and one grandchild, and they have a total of thirty-nine loving grandchildren, sixty-six great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren; and
Whereas, Jack enjoys talking weekly with his only living sister who lives in Maryland and will be one hundred three on May 25, 2012, but his real delight is watching his youngest granddaughter, Kalana Greene, whenever one of her Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) games is on television; and
Whereas, his fondest memories include the flight he took to see her play basketball for the University of Connecticut on her senior night and watching her twice on television when her team visited the White House, and now she plays for the Connecticut Sun; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to honor this oldest living married couple in the area of Alvin called Greentown at the celebration of their birthdays and join with their family and friends in congratulating them on reaching this extraordinary milestone. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
