TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 8-1-55 SO AS TO ENACT THE "SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER PROTECTION ACT" TO PROVIDE THAT A PERSON IS NOT REQUIRED TO PROVIDE HIS SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER ON A FORM REQUIRED BY THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA, AND TO PROVIDE EXCEPTIONS.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. This act is known and may be cited as the "Social Security Number Protection Act".
SECTION 2. Chapter 1, Title 8 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 8-1-55. (A) Notwithstanding another provision of law, and except as provided in subsection (B), a person is not required to provide his Social Security number on any form required by a state governmental entity.
(B) This section does not apply to forms required by the Tax Reform Code of 1971 and any other form utilized in connection with the collection of state taxes."
SECTION 3. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
