TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING ARTICLE 14 TO CHAPTER 3, TITLE 47 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT IT IS UNLAWFUL TO REMOVE OR DESTROY AN ELECTRONIC COLLAR OR OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICE PLACED ON A DOG BY ITS OWNER TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE DOG.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Chapter 3, Title 47 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:
Section 47-3-810. (A) It is unlawful to intentionally remove or destroy an electronic collar or other electronic device placed on a dog by its owner to maintain control of the dog.
(B) A person who violates this provision is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction, must be imprisoned not more than:
(1) ten days for a first offense; or
(2) thirty days for a second or subsequent offense."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
