TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF MOTHER PEARL COHEN BRANTLEY OF HAMPTON COUNTY, AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER LARGE AND LOVING FAMILY AND HER MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Mother Pearl Cohen Brantley at the age of ninety-three on August 26, 2011; and
Whereas, born in Hampton County on June 13, 1918, she was the daughter of Anna and Archie Cohen; and
Whereas, as a devoted member of Efferson Missionary Baptist Church, she served as church treasurer and a member of the senior choir for several years; and
Whereas, she raised two loving daughters and six fine sons along with four cousins who were left after the death of her cousin and dear friend, Albertha Cohen; and
Whereas, she was blessed with forty-five grandchildren, forty-nine great-grandchildren and twenty great great-grandchildren, as well as a myriad of nieces, nephews, and cousins who admired the love and kindness of this hard-working woman; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the life and legacy left by Mother Pearl Cohen Brantley and for the example of sacrifice and kindness she set for all who knew her. Now, therefore,
