TO CONGRATULATE AND HONOR NORTH MYRTLE BEACH MIDDLE SCHOOL OF HORRY COUNTY ON RECEIVING THE COVETED 2011 PALMETTO SILVER AWARD.
Whereas, the Senate is pleased to learn that North Myrtle Beach Middle School has been granted the coveted 2011 Palmetto Silver Award; and
Whereas, each year the South Carolina Department of Education recognizes state schools that have demonstrated high levels of performance and improvement, designating such schools Palmetto Gold Award and Palmetto Silver Award recipients; and
Whereas, basing their selections on the absolute and improvement ratings assigned to each South Carolina school on the previous year's report card, the South Carolina Department of Education has granted 2011 Palmetto Silver honors to fifty-six schools matching the demographics of North Myrtle Beach Middle School. North Myrtle Beach Middle is ranked number four in this prestigious list of schools; and
Whereas, specifically, the Palmetto Silver Award requires an absolute rating of "good" in achievement and growth; and
Whereas, thanks to the hard work of students, parents, faculty, staff, and administration, North Myrtle Beach Middle School has captured this Palmetto Silver Award, with its accompanying cash award, and has demonstrated what can be accomplished when all stakeholders have high expectations and strive to help students reach the full measure of their talents and skills; and
Whereas, to formally recognize North Myrtle Beach Middle School and the other winning schools for capturing a Palmetto Silver Award, a celebratory presentation has been set for May 31, 2011; and
Whereas, fully expecting continued academic excellence from this standout school, the Senate is proud to recognize the fine educational achievement of 2011 Palmetto Silver Award winner North Myrtle Beach Middle School. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate and honor North Myrtle Beach Middle School of Horry County on receiving the coveted 2011 Palmetto Silver Award.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Principal Virginia Horton of North Myrtle Beach Middle School.
