A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE CHRISTIAN ACADEMY OF MYRTLE BEACH VARSITY BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE CLASS A SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the South Carolina Senate is pleased to learn that the members of the Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach varsity boys basketball team in Horry County took top honors at the state competition on March 1, 2014; and

Whereas, to the delight of their fans, the Christian Academy Saints captured their fifth state title in only seven years by defeating Laurens Academy 58-47; and

Whereas, although the Saints have only fielded a varsity basketball team for seven years, Christian Academy also garnered the state trophy in 2008, 2009, 2011, and 2013; and

Whereas, team captains for the Saints included seniors Austin Guyton, Cody Williams, and Cole Gore and sophomore Bernard Jones, and the team finished the season with a 23-6 record, 9-1 in their region and 10-1 at home; and

Whereas, in a sport that demands strength, agility, and speed, Head Coach Darren Gore and his skilled coaching staff capitalized on their own athletic ability and training to mold a championship team and teach these athletes lessons that will prove invaluable through life both on and off the court; and

Whereas, in his seven years of leading the Saints' varsity boys program, Coach Gore's teams have compiled an overall record of 141-54 with a 57-9 record in region play; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate appreciate the pride and recognition that the Christian Academy basketball players have brought to their school and their community and look to hear of their continued accomplishments in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach varsity boys basketball team, coaches, and school officials for an outstanding season and congratulate them for winning the South Carolina Independent School Association Class A State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Principal Nancy Henry and Coach Darren Gore.
