TO CONGRATULATE GERALD E. HARMON, M.D., OF GEORGETOWN COUNTY, ON HIS RECENT ELECTION TO THE AMERICAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION BOARD OF TRUSTEES.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that Gerald E. Harmon, M.D., of Georgetown County has been elected to the American Medical Association (AMA) Board of Trustees; and
Whereas, the Chicago-based AMA, which made the announcement of Dr. Harmon's election on June 18, 2013, is the nation's largest physician organization; and
Whereas, Gerald Harmon, a respected family medicine specialist, has practiced for more than twenty-five years in coastal South Carolina. He is currently a clinical professor at two of this state's medical schools, where he has twice been named Community Educator of the Year by the South Carolina Academy of Family Physicians; and
Whereas, a graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, he served as chief surgeon and Assistant Surgeon General before retiring from the National Guard and the U.S. Air Force. In addition, he served in Operation Desert Shield, Operation Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom; and
Whereas, this former president and chairman of the South Carolina Medical Association has been a delegate to the AMA House of Delegates for more than eighteen years and is a member of the AMA Council on Medical Service; and
Whereas, at home, Dr. Harmon enjoys coastal living with his wife, Linda; and
Whereas, the House of Representatives, grateful for the consistent commitment and excellence Dr. Harmon has bestowed on the people of South Carolina as a physician, takes great pleasure in wishing him well as he begins his new duties as a member of the AMA Board of Trustees. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Gerald E. Harmon, M.D., of Georgetown County, on his recent election to the American Medical Association Board of Trustees.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Dr. Gerald E. Harmon.
