VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-40-237 SO AS TO ALLOW A LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICT TO SPONSOR A CHARTER SCHOOL LOCATED IN A CONTIGUOUS SCHOOL DISTRICT IF THE SCHOOL SERVES PREDOMINANTLY AT-RISK STUDENTS.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Chapter 40, Title 59 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 59-40-237. Notwithstanding any other provision of this act, a local school district may sponsor a charter school located in a contiguous school district if the school serves predominantly at-risk students. In this instance, for purposes of this chapter, the charter school shall be deemed to be located in the sponsoring school district."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
