TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE ORANGEBURG PREPARATORY SCHOOLS VARSITY GIRLS SPORTING CLAYS TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2013 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION AND THE 2013 SOUTH CAROLINA YOUTH SHOOTING FOUNDATION STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLES.
Whereas, the South Carolina Senate is pleased to learn that the members of the Orangeburg Preparatory Schools girls varsity sporting clays team took top honors at both the South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA) and the South Carolina Youth Shooting Foundation (SCYSF) state competitions on May 11, 2013; and
Whereas, in just the fifth year of competing in the SCISA sporting clays program, the Orangeburg Preparatory Lady Indians delighted their fans as they captured trophies against ten other SCISA teams and twenty other SCYSF teams for the respective championships; and
Whereas, the Orangeburg team included Mary Katherine Bamberg, Rebecca Bamberg, and Renn Guthrie, who finished the day with a team total score of 262 out of a possible score of 300; and
Whereas, in a field of fifty-two shooters in the ladies' division, Orangeburg's Renn Guthrie; who has been named the SCISA female shooter of the year, finished with the highest overall average, shooting 91 out of 100 clays; Rebecca Bamberg shot the second overall high of 88; and Mary Katherine Bamberg shot 83 clays; and
Whereas, all of the Lady Indian varsity team members were named to the Ladies All-State Sporting Clays Team, and all will be competing in the 2013 JUNIOR U. S. OPEN Sporting Clays Championship in Georgetown in June; and
Whereas, in a sport that demands skill and accuracy, Coach Jimmy Guthrie capitalized on his own ability and training in sporting clays to forge a championship team and teach these participants lessons that will prove invaluable throughout life; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate appreciate the pride and recognition that the Orangeburg Preparatory Schools varsity girls sporting clays shooters have brought to their school and their community and look to hear of their continued accomplishments in the years ahead. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Orangeburg Preparatory Schools varsity girls sporting clays team, coaches, and school officials for an outstanding season and congratulate them for winning the 2013 South Carolina Independent School Association and the 2013 South Carolina Youth Shooting Foundation State Championship titles.
