TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR OFFICER II ADAM NEMTUDA FOR HIS OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO THE ROCK HILL POLICE DEPARTMENT AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM UPON BEING NAMED THE DEPARTMENT'S 2013 OFFICER OF THE YEAR.
Whereas, it is altogether fitting that the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives should pause in their deliberations to commend the significant contributions of Officer II Adam Nemtuda of the Rock Hill Police Department; and
Whereas, a former uniformed Secret Service officer and member of the United States Army 82nd Airborne Division, Officer Nemtuda has served in Rock Hill for seven years; and
Whereas, he once worked at the White House and on the campaign trail with former President George W. Bush, but he left that behind to pursue regular police work when he was hired by the Rock Hill Police Department to serve on the department's SWAT team; and
Whereas, having enjoyed the time he spent at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, with the 82nd Airborne, the native Ohioan was excited to move South; and
Whereas, during a fight on a SWAT team operation, he sustained a knee injury which required two surgeries, and as a result, he was moved to the Rock Hill Street Crimes Unit; and
Whereas, Officer Nemtuda and his one-and-a-half-year-old K-9 partner, Annie, serve as one of two Rock Hill K-9 teams, handling as many as three calls a day that require a tracking dog, making them one of the most-used special teams in the department; and
Whereas, trained to find people, not drugs, the Rock Hill police dogs train with their handlers about once a week for four hours to make sure they are prepared when called into action to track missing persons or suspects who flee crime scenes; and
Whereas, Annie arrived at the Rock Hill Police Department at the end of last year and has developed a special bond with Officer Nemtuda, working and living with him; and
Whereas, a leader and hard worker, Nemtuda often serves as a mentor for new officers in the department in addition to his other duties; and
Whereas, the award holds a special value to members of the Rock Hill Police Department because it is not based on administrative decisions but on a vote of their peers; and
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is grateful for the dedication and sacrifice of all first responders in our State and joins the members of the Rock Hill Police Department in applauding the excellent performance of Officer Adam Nemtuda. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Officer II Adam Nemtuda for his outstanding service to the Rock Hill Police Department and congratulate him upon being named the department's 2013 Officer of the Year.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Officer II Adam Nemtuda.
