TO RECOGNIZE FILMMAKER EUGENE WASHINGTON OF COLUMBIA FOR HIS WORK ON THE FILM DOCUMENTARY FREEDOM AIN'T FREE AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM ON THE FILM'S RELEASE, SCHEDULED FOR OCTOBER 4-5, 2014.
Whereas, the House of Representatives is pleased to learn that filmmaker Eugene Washington of Columbia has completed his work on the film documentary Freedom Ain't Free and that he will have the pleasure of presenting it on October 4-5, 2014; and
Whereas, the documentary focuses on individuals who suffered astronomical personal costs in loss of property and life while questing for civil and human rights for all people, especially the disenfranchised. Specifically, the documentary highlights the struggles of notable South Carolinians such as George Elmore, the Reverend J.A. DeLaine, Sr., the plaintiffs involved in the Briggs vs. Elliott case, and Fred Moore; and
Whereas, these heroes, fueled by a fervent love for their fellow man and a desire for human dignity and justice for all, dedicated themselves to positively transforming the social, political, and educational landscape of South Carolina, the United States of America, and the world. Their work promoted peace, justice, and prosperity for their own generation, generations that followed, and generations yet unborn; and
Whereas, their courage, endurance, and love serve as a model for citizens of today who profess a desire for love, peace, justice, and equality for all, and their tireless and unselfish work, as well as that of others, will inspire today's youth to live as community servants; and
Whereas, the House of Representatives, grateful for his gifts as a filmmaker, takes great pleasure in recognizing Eugene Washington, his film documentary Freedom Ain't Free, and the heroes whose inspirational stories are documented in the film. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize filmmaker Eugene Washington of Columbia for his work on the film documentary Freedom Ain't Free and congratulate him on the film's release, scheduled for October 4-5, 2014.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Eugene Washington.
