TO EXPRESS THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE TO MR. GENE GREGORY ON THE OCCASION OF HIS EIGHTIETH BIRTHDAY AND TO WISH FOR HIM CONTINUED GOOD HEALTH AND MUCH HAPPINESS IN THE YEARS TO COME.
Whereas, birthdays are joyous occasions to be shared with one's family and friends, and the members of the South Carolina Senate are honored to recognize this very special day on which Mr. Gene Gregory celebrated eighty years of a full and wonderful life; and
Whereas, a family celebration was held on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Mon-Aetna Baptist Church in Union, South Carolina; and
Whereas, Ralph Eugene "Gene" Gregory was born on March 10, 1933 to Will and Hilda Saunders Gregory in Union, South Carolina; and
Whereas, Gene was the youngest of five siblings: Willie Mae, Arthur, Altie Bell, and Judson; and
Whereas, he married his Union High School sweetheart and love of his life, Barbara Ann Harris. Married for fifty-nine years, together they have one daughter, Amanda "Mandy" Kay Gregory-Leigh; and
Whereas, Gene worked two shifts at Monarch Mill from 1954 to 1965 and in 1965 he opened the Little Mint, known today as Gene's Fine Food, where he currently still works; and
Whereas, Gene is affectionately known as Poppa to his granddaughter, Michelle, and four great-grandsons: Drew, Christian, Aiden, and Samuel; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are grateful for the legacy of devoted service that Gene Gregory has made and are pleased to learn that he celebrated the benchmark of eight decades surrounded by loving friends and family. Now, therefore
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, express congratulations to Mr. Gene Gregory on the occasion of his eightieth birthday and wish for him continued good health and much happiness in the years to come.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Gene Gregory.
