A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 50-5-1705 OF THE 1976 CODE, RELATING TO CATCH LIMITS, TO PROVIDE THAT IT IS UNLAWFUL FOR A PERSON TO TAKE OR POSSESS MORE THAN ONE TARPON IN ANY ONE DAY OR A TARPON OF LESS THAN SEVENTY-SEVEN INCHES IN FORK LENGTH.

Amend Title To Conform

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Section 50-5-1705(E) of the 1976 Code is amended to read:

"(E)    It is unlawful for a person to take or have in possession possess more than one tarpon in any one day or a tarpon of less than seventy-seven inches in fork length."

SECTION    2.    Section 50-5-15 of the 1976 Code, as last amended by Act 7 of 2013, is further amended by adding the following appropriately numbered item:

"(__)    'Fork length' means the length of a fish laid flat and measured from the tip of the closed mouth (snout) to the center of the fork of the tail. It is a straight line measure, not over the curvature of the body."

SECTION    3.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
