VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE THE OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA ASPHALT PAVEMENT ASSOCIATION AND ITS PAST AND CURRENT MEMBERS AND BOARD FOR FIFTY YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.
Whereas, the South Carolina Asphalt Pavement Association, incorporated in November of 1966, will celebrate its fiftieth anniversary in 2016; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Asphalt Pavement Association generate a $1.2 billion economic impact in the State of South Carolina each year; and
Whereas, the association plays a key role in strengthening our economy by providing asphalt used in the construction of the Interstate Highway System in South Carolina and other highways, roads, streets, parking lots, and airports; and
Whereas, the South Carolina Asphalt Pavement Association focuses on continually improving the quality of asphalt pavement by establishing a quality improvement program with the South Carolina Department of Transportation; and
Whereas, the South Carolina Asphalt Pavement Association has facilitated technology transfer and advanced new asphalt pavement technologies through partnerships, publications, educational seminars, and presentations; and
Whereas, the South Carolina Asphalt Pavement Association has fostered and encouraged students and young professionals to pursue careers in the asphalt paving industry by establishing the South Carolina Asphalt Pavement Association Internship Program, by funding an asphalt pavement research lab at Tri County Technical College, by funding research of great significance relating to asphalt pavement, and by sponsoring textbooks for civil engineering college courses; and
Whereas, the South Carolina Asphalt Pavement Association and the industry will continue to expand its state-of-the-art resources, create jobs and capital investment, generate a significant impact on the state's economy, and continue to give back to the state's communities through its philanthropic initiatives. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize the outstanding achievements of the South Carolina Asphalt Pavement Association and its current and past members and board for fifty years of service to the State of South Carolina.
