VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE SOUTH POINTE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE SOUTH CAROLINA CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the South Pointe High School football team of York County took top honors at the state competition at Williams-Brice Stadium on December 6, 2014; and
Whereas, five games into the 2014 season, the South Pointe Stallions posted an inauspicious 2-3 season, but with a powerful defense they accumulated ten straight wins to end their season with a state championship victory of 21-7 over Hartsville High School and cap the season with twelve wins and three losses; and
Whereas, although Hartsville High's Red Foxes dominated the clock in the first half of play in the championship game, the Stallions managed to garner a 14-0 lead over their opponents by the halftime; and
Whereas, South Pointe put up the game's first touchdown in the second quarter when the Stallions drove eighty yards in only ten plays, and then junior quarterback Greg Ruff connected successfully for a series of first-down passes to teammates Deshawn Davis and Quay Brown for the team's second touchdown; and
Whereas, Hartsville made an appearance in the end zone for seven points in the third quarter, but the Stallions answered in the fourth quarter with a third touchdown and took home the team's third state trophy in nine years of varsity football action; and
Whereas, in a sport that demands strength, expertise, and determination, Head Coach Strait Herron and his skilled coaching staff capitalized on their own athletic ability and training to forge a championship team and teach these athletes lessons that will prove invaluable through life both on and off the gridiron; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciate the pride and recognition that the South Pointe football players have brought to their school and their community and look to hear of their continued accomplishments in the days ahead. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the South Pointe High School football team, coaches, and school officials for an outstanding season and congratulate them for winning the South Carolina Class AAA State Championship title.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Al Leonard, Principal of South Pointe High School, and Coach Strait Herron.
