VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR COACH DARRYL NANCE OF WADE HAMPTON HIGH SCHOOL FOR HIS OUTSTANDING CAREER AS BOTH COACH AND EDUCATOR, TO CONGRATULATE HIM ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT FROM COACHING, AND TO WISH HIM WELL IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the South Carolina House of Representatives honors those individuals who give tirelessly of themselves to educate the young people of this great State; and
Whereas, Coach Darryl Nance of Wade Hampton High School for twenty-nine years has sought to instill in his student athletes the skills and character traits necessary for success in the classroom, on the court, and in the workplace; and
Whereas, in preparation for his career, Darryl Nance, after graduation from Eastside High School in the Greenville area, continued his education at Furman University. He has coached basketball for twenty-nine years, nineteen of those years at Wade Hampton High School, and has served as an athletic director for twenty-three years. He owns a career coaching record of 424-218, including 283 victories at Wade Hampton, and he has led the Generals to five Region titles, five Upper State championship games, and the 2011 Class AAA State Championship title. In addition, he has a reputation as a superb teacher; and
Whereas, no one has any doubt about Darryl Nance's passion for coaching basketball, but he also has a passion for athletic administration. Although he is retiring from his roles as coach and athletic director at Wade Hampton High School, he will continue in the field he loves when he takes up his new administrative duties as Greenville County's athletic director; and
Whereas, Coach Nance is more than amply qualified for his new position. Adding to his long coaching and administrative service at the high school level, he gained valuable experience while serving on the board of the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) from 2008 to 2011. He also served as NIAAA president in 2010, thereby gaining even more useful experience; and
Whereas, further, Coach Nance is an NIAAA-certified master athletic administrator, the first in the State and the only one for years. He no longer serves on the NIAAA board, but he has served on committees or taught leadership training for years; and
Whereas, on the occasion of his retirement from coaching, Darryl Nance's colleagues will gather to honor him at a celebratory event to be held May 2, 2015; and
Whereas, the House of Representatives, grateful for the legacy of consistent commitment and excellence Coach Nance has bestowed on the people of South Carolina, takes great pleasure in wishing him continued success as he retires from coaching and enters into new challenges in the days ahead. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Coach Darryl Nance of Wade Hampton High School for his outstanding career as both coach and educator, congratulate him on the occasion of his retirement from coaching, and wish him well in all his future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Coach Darryl Nance.
