A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE MARGARET TRUESDELL BRINSON OF KERSHAW COUNTY ON HER ONE HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY AND TO WISH HER MANY YEARS OF CONTINUED HEALTH AND HAPPINESS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are delighted to learn that Margaret Truesdell Brinson of Kershaw County celebrated her one hundredth birthday on October 21, 2014; and

Whereas, born on October 21, 1914, in the early part of the twentieth century, she has witnessed many remarkable social changes, technological advancements, and international developments that have spanned the globe from that time into the second decade of the twenty-first century; and

Whereas, Margaret Truesdell is the daughter of late Dr. E. Z. Truesdell and Catherine Bethune Truesdell, and her mother descended from the family settled that the town of Bethune; and

Whereas, she graduated from Bethune High School and attended Columbia College before graduating from Queens College in Charlotte, North Carolina, now Queens University; and

Whereas, after earning a director of Christian education degree from Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Virginia, now Union Presbyterian Seminary, Mrs. Brinson worked with a church in Rome, Georgia; and

Whereas, she married her beloved husband, the late Fred Augustus Brinson, in 1941 shortly before the infamous attack on the United States military forces stationed at Pearl Harbor. Together they reared three fine children: Mary Bennett Brinson Blair, Kathryne Bethune Brinson Harwell, and Augustus Truesdell Brinson. They have blessed her with six adoring grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and

Whereas, Mrs. Brinson taught elementary school many years in Bethune before retiring, and she remained active in the Bethune Woman's Club and in Bethune Presbyterian Church, where she is still recognized as an elder emeritus; and

Whereas, her niece is Sarah Truesdell Seastrunk, the wife of the much-appreciated chaplain of the House of Representatives, Reverend Charles Seastrunk; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to honor this daughter of South Carolina for her centennial birthday and join with her family and friends in congratulating her on having reached this extraordinary milestone. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Margaret Truesdell Brinson of Kershaw County on her one hundredth birthday and wish her many years of continued health and happiness.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Margaret Truesdell Brinson.
