A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON BASEBALL TEAM ON AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM ON WINNING THE 2014 COLONIAL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, as first-year members of the Colonial Athletic Association, the College of Charleston "Cougars" won the 2014 Colonial Athletic Association Championship after three consecutive wins in the tournament before they became the first fourth seed to ever sweep an NCAA Regional, taking out SEC Champion and regional host Florida in the process, and advancing to College of Charleston's second-ever NCAA Super Regional; and

Whereas, 2014 was a banner year for the College of Charleston baseball team as the Cougars finished the season ranked as high as number sixteen in the nation according to Collegiate Baseball, marking the program's second-highest year-end national ranking; and

Whereas, the Cougars ended the season with a 44-19 overall record. They extended their season beyond that of any other team in South Carolina in addition to finishing the season with the highest ranking of any team in the Palmetto State; and

Whereas, the story of the 2014 season for College of Charleston revolved around pitching and defense. College of Charleston set new program records in team ERA and fielding percentage. The Cougars ranked seventh in the nation for fewest walks and hits per innings pitched, while ranking eighth in the country in strikeout-to-walk ratio; and

Whereas, the members of the Senate appreciate the pride and recognition that the Cougars baseball team has brought to the College of Charleston and the State of South Carolina, and the members look forward to hearing of continued achievements in the years ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, recognize and commend the College of Charleston baseball team on an outstanding season and to congratulate them on winning the 2014 Colonial Athletic Association Championship.
