A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 17-5-110, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE AUTHORIZATION OF CORONERS OR DEPUTY CORONERS TO CARRY PISTOLS OR OTHER HANDGUNS WHILE ENGAGED IN OFFICIAL DUTIES, SO AS TO PROHIBIT CORONERS OR DEPUTY CORONERS FROM CARRYING PISTOLS OR OTHER HANDGUNS WHILE ENGAGED IN OFFICIAL DUTIES.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Section 17-5-110 of the 1976 Code is amended to read:

"Section 17-5-110.    A coroner or deputy coroner, while engaged in official duties of his office, is authorized to carry prohibited from carrying a pistol or other handgun. He is considered so engaged when going to or returning from the actual performance of his duties. However, coroners and deputy coroners must be certified and trained by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division in the proper use of handguns."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
