A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND MAYOR BRAD HANLEY FOR HIS DEDICATED PUBLIC SERVICE TO THE TOWN OF ELGIN AND TO WISH HIM MUCH SUCCESS, HAPPINESS, AND FULFILLMENT IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the Senate notes with appreciation the tenure of Mayor Brad Hanley of Elgin, who will step down in February 2015 after four successful years at the helm of his town's government; and

Whereas, Mayor Hanley is from Branchville, South Carolina. He is married to Theresa Hanley and the couple has two children, Lindsay and Shaun, and two grandchildren, Shaw and Noah; and

Whereas, prior to his service as mayor, Mayor Hanley dedicated his time to serving the town through positions on the Planning and Zoning Commission, as a town councilman, and as the mayor pro tem; and

Whereas, during his tenure as mayor, Mayor Hanley renovated the Elgin Town Hall, which was once the Blaney Fire Department, adding areas for the Elgin Police Department, the Municipal Courtroom and Council Chambers, and a new lobby. He oversaw the Pottery Community Park Project, the Elgin Military Salute Project, and the Groom's Garden project; and

Whereas, Mayor Hanley approached County Council about the need for crossing guards at Blaney Elementary School and Stover Middle School, letting the Elgin Police Department focus more on the needs of the community. He worked with Chief Brown to purchase an additional vehicle and new computers for the department, to hire a full-time administrator, and to secure a grant for new police communication radios; and

Whereas, Mayor Hanley also established a new website for the Town of Elgin, allowing the public to have access to critical information about the town and its officials; and

Whereas, Mayor Hanley has volunteered with the Elgin Police Department's Toys RoundUp and Caring Hands Foundation since its establishment and coordinates with the department each year for community events like the Podunk Festival and Movies on Main; and

Whereas, in addition to his duties as mayor, Mayor Hanley sits on the Santee Lynches Council of Governments Board for Kershaw County; and

Whereas, the members of the Senate are grateful for the visionary leadership of Mayor Brad Hanley, and the members take much pleasure in joining the citizens of Elgin and the surrounding communities in extending to him best wishes as he begins a new chapter. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, commend Mayor Brad Hanley for his dedicated public service to the Town of Elgin, and wish him much success, happiness, and fulfillment in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mayor Brad Hanley.
