VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR MR. CHARLES M. "CHARLIE" COMPTON, DIRECTOR OF PLANNING AND GIS FOR LEXINGTON COUNTY, UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT, TO EXTEND DEEP APPRECIATION FOR HIS FORTY YEARS OF SERVICE, AND TO OFFER BEST WISHES FOR A SATISFYING AND REWARDING RETIREMENT.
Whereas, for over forty years, Charles M. "Charlie" Compton has served as planning director for Lexington County. He will retire on September 30, 2015; and
Whereas, Mr. Compton is a graduate of Clemson University and a veteran of the Vietnam War. He is a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and church and community leader; and
Whereas, Mr. Compton has been a leader in the planning profession for many years, making invaluable contributions to the development, improvement, and recognition of county planning. He has held numerous leadership roles, including serving as South Carolina's American Planning Association (APA) chapter vice president and president, chapter representative to the APA Chapter Delegate Assembly, member on the South Carolina Academy for Planning Board, and president of the National Association of County Planners; and
Whereas, Mr. Compton has distinguished himself in his career through his work in numerous efforts, including his success in leading the effort to form the County Planning Division of APA, his service to the APA's Growing Smart Directorate, his work pioneering the creation and development of innovative performance zoning in Lexington County, his labors in championing the implementation and development of a digital Geographic Information System (GIS) in Lexington County, and his work to teach K-12 students about local government policies and planning practices; and
Whereas, as a result of his continuing position at the forefront of his industry, he was inducted as a Fellow of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP); and
Whereas, Mr. Compton's contributions to his community, county, and State exemplify a record of service, commitment, and character that comprises a legacy of civic involvement and public service. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Mr. Charles M. "Charlie" Compton, director of planning and GIS for Lexington County, upon the occasion of his retirement, extend deep appreciation for his forty years of service, and offer best wishes for a satisfying and rewarding retirement.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Charles M. "Charlie" Compton.
