A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND OLIVIA "LIV" MCCONNELL OF NEW ZION FOR HER OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY SERVICE AND TO CONGRATULATE HER UPON BEING NAMED A 2016 PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARD DISTINGUISHED FINALIST.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are delighted to learn that Olivia "Liv" McConnell of Clarendon County has been selected a 2016 Prudential Spirit of Community Award Distinguished Finalist; and

Whereas, the program judges recognize Distinguished Finalists for their impressive community service activities and present each of the winners with an engraved bronze medallion. In receiving this award, the fifth-grader at The Carolina Academy has achieved national recognition for her exemplary volunteer service; and

Whereas, when Liv was five years old, she founded Liv's Lemonade Stand to raise money for the March of Dimes. In the next five years, she raised more than twenty-four thousand dollars to support the March of Dimes by selling lemonade and cupcakes; and

Whereas, ten-year-old Liv has recruited volunteers to help in the effort and has branched out to sell T-shirts, and she speaks to local organizations, schools, and churches on the importance of helping prevent premature births; and

Whereas, from among more than twenty-nine thousand participants, she was chosen as a Distinguished Finalist in order to honor her for using creativity and compassion to bring positive change to her community and for the powerful example she sets for her peers; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives recognizes that the success of the State of South Carolina, the strength of its communities, and the vitality of American society as a whole depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of individuals like Liv McConnell who use their talents and resources to serve others. The members are grateful for Liv's sacrificial contributions to her community and look with interest to hear of her continued accomplishments in the days ahead. Now, therefore,
