A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE THE GREY GHOST BAKERY FOR ITS UNIQUE CULINARY AND ECONOMIC CONTRIBUTION TO THE PALMETTO STATE AND TO HONOR ITS FOUNDER, KATHERINE FRANKSTONE, FOR HER ENTREPRENEURIAL SPIRIT AND VISION.

Whereas, legend on Pawleys Island asserts that the Grey Ghost, a friendly spirit, appears to alert residents of approaching storms in order to protect those who heed his warning; and

Whereas, as owner and founder of the Grey Ghost Bakery, Katherine Frankstone, inspired by her lazy summer days spent baking and sharing Lowcountry lore with friends and family on the porch of her Pawleys Island beach house, named her company for the hero of the beloved legend; and

Whereas, all that Katherine Frankstone wanted from the time she was five years old was an Easy Bake oven, but her parents enticed her instead to climb on a stool alongside her father and learn to bake in the real oven within the warmth of the family's kitchen; and

Whereas, for decades, she has offered her husband, sons, and a myriad of friends the sweet-tooth comfort of her scrumptious cookies, renowned for being perfectly crisp yet chewy; and

Whereas, Ms. Frankstone descends from a family of determined entrepreneurs like her grandparents who founded an insurance company in the midst of the Great Depression, and that same determination motivated her to transform her baking hobby into her own specialty food company; and

Whereas, through Grey Ghost Bakery, she now serves up the flavor of her childhood with an old-fashioned dose of Lowcountry ghost lore, and much like the ghost tales of the Carolina Lowcountry, the legendary recipes used in the bakery have passed through her family for generations; and

Whereas, Ms. Frankstone creates made-from-scratch, hand-formed cookies in an array of deliciously enticing flavors with the highest quality, all-natural ingredients that include unbleached, unbromated flour; European-style butter; pure cane sugar; whole eggs; pure vanilla extract; cocoa; crystallized ginger; molasses; cane syrup; and premium nuts and spices; and

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciates this robust family-owned baking company based in the Palmetto State and the Carolina sweetness in its delightful products that the Grey Ghost Bakery exports to retailers across the nation. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize the Grey Ghost Bakery for its unique culinary and economic contribution to the Palmetto State and honor its founder, Katherine Frankstone, for her entrepreneurial spirit and vision.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Katherine Frankstone.
