VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE CLAFLIN UNIVERSITY BASEBALL TEAM FOR AN EXCEPTIONAL SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THE PLAYERS AND COACHES ON CAPTURING THE 2016 SOUTHERN INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are pleased to learn that the Claflin University baseball team took home top honors at the 2016 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Championship, held in Ozark, Alabama, on May 1, 2016; and
Whereas, in ten innings, the Panthers prevailed in an 8-7 victory over Stillman College at historic Eagle Stadium; and
Whereas, to add to Claflin's already sweet victory, Lyndale Morley was selected for the All-Tournament team and named the 2016 SIAC Baseball Championship Tournament Most Valuable Player. Two more Panthers, Dillon Parker and Jeturi Brown, also won coveted berths on the All-Tournament team; and
Whereas, using their own athletic abilities and leadership skills, Head Coach James Randall and his assistant coach, Breylon Emory, forged a championship baseball program and instilled a standard of excellence in these Claflin players that will prove invaluable throughout their lives; and
Whereas, for his outstanding coaching, Claflin's James Randall was honored as Coach of the Tournament; and
Whereas, the next step for the Panthers will be competing in the upcoming NCAA Division II Regional, where they will do the Palmetto State proud; and
Whereas, the South Carolina General Assembly gives special tribute to the Claflin University baseball team for concluding an outstanding season with an SIAC championship, and the members anticipate with pleasure hearing of the further accomplishments of this fine group of young men. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Claflin University baseball team for an exceptional season and congratulate the players and coaches on capturing the 2016 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship title.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Henry N. Tisdale, president, and Head Coach James Randall of Claflin University.
