VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE CHAPIN HIGH SCHOOL BOYS VARSITY SOCCER TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2016 SOUTH CAROLINA CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.
Whereas, the South Carolina General Assembly is pleased to learn that the members of the Chapin High School boys soccer team of Lexington County took top honors at the state competition held at W. C. Hawkins Stadium in Irmo on Saturday, May 14, 2016; and
Whereas, to the cheers of their exuberant fans, the Chapin Eagles defeated Myrtle Beach High School 3-2 to win boys class AAA state championship, Chapin's first state title since 2003, when the team won back-to-back class AA titles in the 2002-2003 seasons; and
Whereas, Chapin junior midfielder Cooper Woodham posted the Eagles' first goal, and teammate Matthew Greco added another goal twenty-one minutes into the game to give the Eagles an early 2-0 lead; and
Whereas, the Myrtle Beach Seahawks scored on a penalty kick in the forty-ninth minute, cutting the Eagles' lead to 2-1, and three minutes later they blasted a shot from the right side to tie the game at 2-2; and
Whereas, Colin Harris delivered a pass to Cooper Woodham, who rifled in the game-winning goal seventy-one minutes into the game to smash the tie and lift the Eagles to a 3-2 win over the Seahawks in the state title game; and
Whereas, the victory of the boys varsity team was made all the sweeter as the Chapin Lady Eagles' soccer team had defeated Hilton Head High School 7-3 earlier in the day to garner their state championship trophy; and
Whereas, the Chapin boys team finished the season with a remarkable 21-3 record and the boys' and girls' teams are the first class AAA teams to sweep both soccer titles since 2013; and
Whereas, in a sport that demands strength, speed, stamina, and agility, Head Coach Ben Bosco and his skilled coaching staff maximized their own athletic ability and training to mold a championship-caliber team and teach these athletes lessons that will prove invaluable through life both on and off the pitch; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly value the pride and recognition that the Chapin soccer players have brought to their school and their community and look to hear of their continued accomplishments in the days to come. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Chapin High School boys varsity soccer team, coaches, and school officials for an outstanding season and congratulate them for winning the 2016 South Carolina Class AAA State Championship title.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Akil Ross, Principal of Chapin High School, and to Coach Ben Bosco.
