Whereas, it is altogether fitting and proper that the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina should pause in their deliberations to express their gratitude to Major Jasper Rogers for his significant contributions to defending the freedoms we hold so dear as he served in the United States Army for almost thirty years; and
Whereas, born in Wake Forest, North Carolina, Jasper Rogers enlisted in the United States Army in January 1986, and was selected from the ranks to attend the United States Military Academy Preparatory School in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey; and

Whereas, Major Rogers was honorably discharged from active duty in February 1996, and joined the United States Army Reserve in 1999, and as a Reserve Officer, he led a Quartermaster platoon and served as company executive officer; and
Whereas, he took command of a reception company at Fort Jackson, and in 2004, he deployed with the 343rd MP Detachment to Iraq, where he earned a Bronze Star Medal for his work helping to institute corrective actions following the Abu Ghraib scandal; and
Whereas, upon returning from Iraq, Major Rogers commanded a basic training company and served as a basic training battalion executive officer at Fort Jackson; and
Whereas, a valued teammate in the 206th Digital Liaison Detachment since 2009, he has led the Operations Team and will retire on June 1, 2016, after almost thirty years of devoted service to the nation; and
Whereas, Major Rogers also serves as a Richland County deputy sheriff, and he is the devoted husband of Melissa Carte Rogers and the proud father of two fine sons, JD and Bradley; and
Whereas, Major Rogers will be honored at a retirement ceremony surrounded by family, friends, colleagues from the Richland County Sheriff's Office, and fellow soldiers on June 5, 2016; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the many years of dedicated service that Jasper Rogers has devoted to guarding the freedoms we so richly enjoy and wish him many years of continued success in his well-earned retirement. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
