VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR FLORIA WALKER HARRIS, A COMMISSIONER FOR THE BOARD OF VOTER REGISTRATION AND ELECTIONS OF AIKEN COUNTY, UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT AFTER THIRTY-SIX YEARS OF EXEMPLARY SERVICE AND TO WISH HER CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, it is altogether fitting and proper that the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina should pause in their deliberations to express their gratitude to Floria Harris for her significant contributions to the Board of Voter Registration and Elections of Aiken County for more than three and a half decades; and
Whereas, born on March 24, 1927, Floria Walker is the daughter of the late Willie D. and Margaret Walker and sister to eight siblings; and
Whereas, she graduated from Schofield High School and earned a bachelor's degree from Benedict College; and
Whereas, in 1965, Mrs. Harris married her beloved husband, the late Rudolph Harris, and together they reared two fine children, Cynthia James-Deveaux and Rudolph Harris, Jr. These children blessed their parents with the love and affection of four adoring grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and
Whereas, since 1978, she served with distinction as a commissioner for the Aiken County Board of Voter Registration and Elections, formerly separate boards, until her retirement on January 5, 2015; and
Whereas, Mrs. Harris retired from the Aiken County School District after fifty years of outstanding service; and
Whereas, she is a devoted member of Sardis Baptist Church in Salley, where she served as the superintendent of Sunday school for twenty-two years, and she is a member of the Eastern Stars and a women's choir for the Beaver Creek Association; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are grateful for the years of unparalleled dedication that Floria Harris has devoted to the Board of Voter Registration and Elections of Aiken County and wish her many years of enjoyment in her well-earned retirement. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor Floria Walker Harris, a Commissioner for the Board of Voter Registration and Elections of Aiken County, upon the occasion of her retirement after thirty-six years of exemplary service, and wish her continued success and happiness in all her future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Floria Walker Harris.
