VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE WANDO HIGH SCHOOL BOYS VARSITY LACROSSE TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON, AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2015 AAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.
Whereas, the South Carolina Senate is pleased to learn that the Wando High School "Warriors" boys varsity lacrosse team won the AAAA State Championship title on April 25, 2015, at Chapin High School; and
Whereas, the Warriors defeated Fort Mill High School 13-6 to take the title. The win concluded the Warrior's first undefeated season and this is the third time Wando and Fort Mill have met in a finals game; and
Whereas, Fort Mill came into the game facing an uphill battle against the state's highest scoring and top-ranked defensive team; and
Whereas, since lacrosse was sanctioned by the South Carolina High School League in 2010, Wando has appeared in five championship games and won three championship titles, in 2012, 2013, and 2015. Wando won the Lower State championship in 2007. 2008, 2009, and 2010; and
Whereas, ten of Wando's players made All-State, and three made All-American. Three seniors have committed to play NCAA Lacrosse; and
Whereas, in a sport that demands quickness and agility, strategy and strength, Coach Lance Renes and Assistant Coach Ben Rupp capitalized on their own athletic training to hone a championship team and teach these athletes lessons that will prove invaluable throughout life, both on and off the field; and
Whereas, the members of the Senate appreciate the pride and recognition that the lacrosse players have brought to their school and community and look forward to hearing of their continued accomplishments. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Wando High School boys varsity lacrosse team, coaches, and school officials on an outstanding season, and congratulate them for winning the AAAA state championship title.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Principal Lucy Beckham and Coach Lance Renes
