A BILL

TO AMEND ACT 509 OF 1982, AS AMENDED, TO ADD A NEW SECTION REQUIRING TWO-THIRDS APPROVAL OF THE ANDERSON COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION PRIOR TO A SCHOOL OR SCHOOLS BEING CLOSED, MERGED, EXPANDED, CONSOLIDATED, OR ELIMINATED.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Act 509 of 1982, as amended, is further amended by adding:

"Section    (    ).    Before closing, merging, expanding, consolidating, or eliminating any school or schools in Anderson County, the Anderson County Board of Education shall be required to approve the proposed action by a two-thirds vote."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
