TO CONGRATULATE DEBORAH B. SMITH FOR HER OUTSTANDING YEARS OF SERVICE AS THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE NEWBERRY OPERA HOUSE, AND TO WISH HER CONTINUED SUCCESS IN HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, the Senate has learned that Deborah Bradford Smith will be retiring as the Executive Director of the Newberry Opera House in September; and
Whereas, she has served with great distinction since 1994 at one of South Carolina's premier performing arts centers, which was recognized in 2008 as the Finest Theater in America by the League of Historic American Theaters; and
Whereas, a native of New Haven, Connecticut and educated primarily in New England, Deborah Smith has become an ardent advocate for the City and County of Newberry, as well as the State of South Carolina, and is one of the prime movers of the rebirth and renaissance of Newberry; and
Whereas, she has demonstrated remarkable motivational skills in creating a fresh, exciting environment dedicated to inspiring others to build a better and stronger Newberry; and
Whereas, Deborah Smith has truly enriched the lives of the citizens of the Newberry community and of South Carolina, who recognize and deeply appreciate her contributions and are proud of her many achievements. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Deborah B. Smith for her outstanding years of service as the Executive Director of the Newberry Opera House and wish her continued success in her future endeavors.
