VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO AMEND CHAPTER 25, TITLE 59 OF THE 1976 CODE, RELATING TO EMPLOYMENT AND DISMISSAL OF TEACHERS, BY ADDING SECTION 59-25-370, TO MANDATE THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION TO PROMULGATE REGULATIONS TO EXPEDITE THE INITIAL CERTIFICATION PROCESS FOR PEOPLE SEEKING TO BECOME TEACHERS FROM ANOTHER FIELD.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Article 4 of the Chapter 25 of Title 59 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 59-25-370. The State Department of Education shall promulgate regulations providing an expedited process for initial certification for people with at least two years of work experience in a field other than teaching. In order to be eligible for this expedited certification, the person seeking certification must teach a subject related to the field in which he previously worked."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
