A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE REVEREND DR. TOMMY L. BROWN, PASTOR OF NEW FREE HOPE INDEPENDENT CHURCH ON THE OCCASION OF HIS THIRTY-FIFTH PASTORAL ANNIVERSARY, AND TO WISH HIM CONTINUED HAPPINESS IN HIS SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF THE NEW FREE HOPE COMMUNITY.

Whereas, Reverend Dr. Tommy L. Brown has been leading the congregants of New Free Hope Independent Church since April 1981; and

Whereas, Dr. Brown was born August 25, 1950 in Tifton, Georgia, the twelfth child of John and Susanna Brown; and

Whereas, Dr. Brown graduated from Clermont High School in Clermont, Florida and attended Lake Sumter Jr. College in Leesburg, Florida. He received his associate degree from Chicago City College and his bachelor's degree from Erskine College. He went on to earn his masters of theology and doctorate degree in philosophy in religious works from Columbia Bible Institute; and

Whereas, in November 1973, Dr. Brown married his childhood sweetheart, Deloris Murry. They were blessed with two children, and now enjoy the presence of their son-in-law and two granddaughters; and

Whereas, Dr. Brown received his call to the ministry in April 1975 when he was living in Clermont, Florida. The next year, he joined the United States Army. After the completion of his training, his tour of duty took him to Hawaii, where he was a chaplain's assistant for two years before he was sent to Fort Jackson; and

Whereas, after his discharge from the Army in 1980, he became the pastor of New Free Hope Independent Church in Blythewood, South Carolina; and

Whereas, under his leadership and guidance, the church membership has increased. He is able to teach the Word of God to the members through his Bible classes, and he oversaw a renovation of the church sanctuary; and

Whereas, it is the desire of the members of the Senate that under Dr. Brown's continued guidance, the church continues to grow and prosper for many years to come. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate Reverend Dr. Tommy L. Brown, pastor of New Free Hope Independent Church on the occasion of his thirty-fifth pastoral anniversary, and wish him continued happiness in his service to the people of the New Free Hope community.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Reverend Doctor Tommy L. Brown.
