TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR KAREN JACOBS SPRAYBERRY, PROGRAM COORDINATOR II FOR THE BUREAU OF AIR QUALITY AND THE ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY CONTROL ADMINISTRATION OFFICE OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL, UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT AFTER MORE THAN TWENTY-EIGHT YEARS OF EXEMPLARY SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF THIS STATE, AND TO WISH HER CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, it is altogether fitting and proper that the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives should pause in their deliberations to express their gratitude to Karen Jacobs Sprayberry for her significant contributions to the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC); and
Whereas, after earning a bachelor's in public affairs from Columbia College in 1988 where she served as the president of the student body, she served as special events coordinator for Katharine Campbell and Company and then as an administrative specialist in the Division of Economic Opportunity for the Office of the Governor; and
Whereas, from 1992 to 1997, Ms. Sprayberry served as a research assistant for the Joint Legislative Committee on Aging for the South Carolina House of Representatives and then as an administrative assistant for the State Reorganization Commission; and
Whereas, she served as the program coordinator for the Bureau of Land and Waste Management from 1998 to 2005, and since then she has served as Program Coordinator II for the Environmental Quality Control Administration Office and for the last year for the Bureau of Air Quality as well, all with South Carolina DHEC; and
Whereas, deeply involved in her community, Karen Sprayberry has served in numerous capacities in the Junior League of Columbia, including as a sustainer and as chair and co-chair of the organization's Holiday Market. She also served as the chair of Circle 8 for Forest Lake Presbyterian Church, a member of the board of directors and chair of the Public Policy Committee of the Mid-State Chapter Alzheimer's Association, and secretary of the Carolina Carillon; and
Whereas, she was honored with the Award of Appreciation from the R.I.S.E. Project for her dedication to the Graniteville, Vaucluse, and Warrenville communities in 2013 and three times with the Team of the Year Award from the Environmental Quality Control for SC DHEC. Five different years she received the Michael D. Jarrett Outstanding Customer Service Award, and she earned the United States EPA Environmental Justice Achievement State Award; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the years of unparalleled dedication that Karen Sprayberry has devoted to the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control and wish her many years of enjoyment in her well-earned retirement. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives/General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor Karen Jacobs Sprayberry, Program Coordinator II for the Bureau of Air Quality and the Environmental Quality Control Administration Office of the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, upon the occasion of her retirement after more than twenty-eight years of exemplary service to the citizens of this State, and wish her continued success and happiness in all her future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Karen Jacobs Sprayberry.
