TO CONGRATULATE EMILY WILSON OF WILSON HALL UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT, TO COMMEND HER FOR HER FOUR DECADES OF DEDICATED SERVICE AS AN EDUCATOR, AND TO WISH HER MUCH HAPPINESS AND FULFILLMENT IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the South Carolina House of Representatives honors those individuals who give tirelessly of themselves to the welfare of this great state's most important legacy, its children; and
Whereas, Wilson Hall's Emily Wilson, retiring after four fruitful decades as a classroom teacher, stands among their number as an outstanding public benefactor, one much admired in her role as an educator; and
Whereas, born and raised in Sumter, Emily Wilson received her bachelor's degree in math from Columbia College after graduating in only three years and received her master's degree from the University of South Carolina; and
Whereas, in August 1972, Mrs. Wilson began her teaching career at Sumter County's Stone Hill School; and
Whereas, during her career, she has educated and shaped the lives of hundreds of students at levels ranging from kindergarten to middle school. In fact, a generation of students grew up with Mrs. Wilson in both elementary and middle school; and
Whereas, long acknowledged as a master teacher, Emily Wilson was a two-time South Carolina Independent School Association Teacher of the Year finalist, in 1991 and 2006; and
Whereas, Emily Wilson was named Teacher of the Year at Wilson Hall in 2003 and received the Margaret S. West Excellence in Teaching Award in 2006; and
Whereas, Mrs. Wilson served as the faculty representative on the Wilson Hall Board of Directors for many years; and
Whereas, on the home front, Emily Wilson and her husband, Bob Wilson, who are residents of Sumter, have one son, Robert, who lives and works in Columbia, South Carolina; and
Whereas, during her well-earned retirement, the House trusts Mrs. Wilson will find herself more frequently able to indulge in those leisure-time activities that teachers so often have to put aside until the summer; and
Whereas, having set the bar of achievement high in her profession, Emily Wilson will be remembered with affection and gratitude by colleagues, students, parents, and legislative friends for years to come. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Emily Wilson of Wilson Hall upon the occasion of her retirement, commend her for her four decades of dedicated service as an educator, and wish her much happiness and fulfillment in all her future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Emily Wilson.
