TO CONGRATULATE THE MEMBERS OF BLYTHEWOOD IVY LEAGUE ON THEIR CHARTERING AS ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA SORORITY'S NEWEST GRADUATE CHAPTER AND TO THANK THIS EXEMPLARY GROUP FOR ITS DEDICATION TO THE SERVICE OF THE BLYTHEWOOD-NORTHEAST COLUMBIA COMMUNITY.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that Blythewood Ivy League (BIL) will become the newest graduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority (AKA) on December 12, 2015; and
Whereas, on officially receiving their charter, BIL's seventy members will make history as the only African-American Greek-letter organization based in the Blythewood-Northeast Columbia community. These civic-minded women have provided service to their community as an AKA interest group since their establishment in March 2014; and
Whereas, as community stakeholders, the members of Blythewood Ivy League have strategically implemented meaningful, engaging programs that reflect an unprecedented level of excellence and effectiveness. Programs include Books for 2 (summer reading books donated to second graders in Richland School District Two), The Amazing Race of Blythewood-Northeast Columbia (day of random acts of kindness), ASCEND (mentoring program for Richland Two high school students), and 1908 Playground Mobilization (assistance with upgrades to Blythewood Park), among other efforts. Results have been far-reaching; and
Whereas, the group's unrelenting commitment to the community has earned BIL its status as a new AKA graduate chapter, and its fine service will be recognized by AKA as the sorority's South Atlantic Regional Director, Mrs. Sharon Brown Harriott, officiates at the chartering celebration; and
Whereas, the House of Representatives is grateful for the dedicated service of Blythewood Ivy League and the members take much pleasure in saluting the group as it continues its service as AKA's newest graduate chapter. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate the members of Blythewood Ivy League on their chartering as Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority's newest graduate chapter and thank this exemplary group for its dedication to the service of the Blythewood-Northeast Columbia community.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Blythewood Ivy League.
