TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR FRANKLIN GOODWIN, JR., A FORMER HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL OFFICIAL WITH THE SOUTH CAROLINA HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUE, AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM FOR HIS INDUCTION INTO THE SOUTH CAROLINA BASKETBALL OFFICIALS ASSOCIATION HALL OF FAME.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are delighted to learn that Franklin Goodwin, Jr., was honored with induction into the South Carolina Basketball Officials Association Hall of Fame on March 30, 2016; and
Whereas, reared in the Palmetto State, "Squeeze," as he is affectionately known, is the eighth son born to the late Franklin Goodwin, Sr., and Zena Mae Goodwin, and he graduated in 1980 from Dreher High School, where he helped his teammates win the state championship basketball game; and
Whereas, for thirty-five years, Mr. Goodwin has been employed with the Department of Administration, formerly the Budget and Control Board, and he currently holds the position as Trade Specialist IV with a reputation as an invaluable asset, able to fix anything and everything. He is the "go-to guy" in the Blatt Building; and
Whereas, during his twenty-four years as a basketball official for the South Carolina High School League, Mr. Goodwin has officiated numerous semi-final games, seven state championship games, and one All Star game; and
Whereas, he also has officiated eight lower state finals and thirteen Chick-fil-a Tournaments, as well as two years at the Beach Ball Classic; and
Whereas, Mr. Goodwin has served the league as a rule presenter for District Five basketball and as a mentor teaching rules and working with young officials; and
Whereas, in 2012, he received the Official of the Year award from the National Federation of State High School Associations; and
Whereas, together with his beloved wife and soul mate, Cheryl A. Goodwin, he reared two fine children, Quinton and Lauren, who have blessed him with the love of two grandchildren, Candace and Jeremiah; and
Whereas, after Franklin Goodwin gave his life to Christ, he joined Gill Creek Baptist Church in 1992, where he has served faithfully as a trustee and usher; and
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives deeply appreciates Franklin Goodwin's dedication to the sport of high school basketball and the leadership he has provided to fellow officials, as well as to the youth who play basketball and their coaches. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Franklin Goodwin, Jr., a former high school basketball official with the South Carolina High School League, and congratulate him for his induction into the South Carolina Basketball Officials Association Hall of Fame.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Franklin Goodwin, Jr.
