TO REQUEST THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION NAME THE PORTION OF SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAY 57 IN HORRY COUNTY, FROM ITS INTERSECTION WITH GORE ROAD TO ITS INTERSECTION WITH BRIGHT ROAD "STALVEY BELLAMY MEMORIAL HIGHWAY" AND ERECT APPROPRIATE MARKERS OR SIGNS ALONG THIS PORTION OF HIGHWAY THAT CONTAIN THIS DESIGNATION.
Whereas, Mr. Stalvey Bellamy was born on February 11, 1920, in Little River, South Carolina, and died on April 3, 1995; and
Whereas, Mr. Bellamy was a successful farmer in the Little River community, and a tireless advocate for the improvement of the quality of life for the people of his community; and
Whereas, Mr. Bellamy worked to provide transportation to the citizens of his community in order to give them access to services provided by the Department of Social Services, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Social Security Administration, and the Horry County Voter Registration and Election department; and
Whereas, Mr. Bellamy was a faithful, lifetime member of Mt. Calvary #2 Missionary Baptist Church; and
Whereas, it is fitting and proper to forever remember the service that this son of South Carolina provided to this community by naming a portion of South Carolina Highway 57 in Horry County in his honor. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly request that the Department of Transportation name the portion of South Carolina Highway 57 in Horry County, from its intersection with Gore Road to its intersection with Bright Road "Stalvey Bellamy Memorial Highway" and erect appropriate markers or signs along this portion of highway that contain this designation.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Stalvey Bellamy and the Department of Transportation.
