TO CONGRATULATE THE COASTAL CAROLINA UNIVERSITY BASEBALL TEAM AND COACHES ON AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO WISH THEM SUCCESS IN THEIR FIRST APPEARANCE IN THE COLLEGE WORLD SERIES.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the Coastal Carolina University baseball team punched a ticket to Omaha after sweeping Louisiana State University in the Baton Rouge Super Regional; and
Whereas, the trip to the College World Series caps off a stellar regular season with the Chanticleers earning an impressive 49-16 record, the Big South regular season title, and the team's 14th Big South tournament championship; and
Whereas, Coastal Carolina was selected as the No. 2-seed in the Raleigh regional, advancing to the Baton Rouge Super Regional after defeating North Carolina State 7-5 in game two of the regional championship; and
Whereas, the Chanticleers advanced to Omaha in truly dramatic fashion, as junior short stop Michael Paez hit a walk-off chopper to the left in the wee hours of the morning, driving home senior Anthony Marks to beat the Tigers by a score of 4-3; and
Whereas, in his 21st season at his alma mater, Head Coach Gary Gilmore has recorded an impressive 792 wins and has led the Chanticleers to 14 NCAA berths, three Super Regional appearances, and one appearance in the College World Series; and
Whereas, the House of Representatives looks forward to cheering on the Chanticleers as they travel to Omaha and wish them all the best as they participate in their first College World Series. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate the Coastal Carolina baseball team on an outstanding season and wish them success in their first appearance in the College World Series.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Head Coach Gary Gilmore.
