TO COMMEND SUZANNE KOTY, ENGLISH TEACHER AT SUMTER HIGH SCHOOL, FOR HER COMMITMENT TO PROVIDING QUALITY EDUCATION FOR THE CHILDREN OF SOUTH CAROLINA AND TO CONGRATULATE HER UPON BEING NAMED THE 2015-2016 SOUTH CAROLINA TEACHER OF THE YEAR.
Whereas, it is with distinct pleasure that the South Carolina Senate recognizes educators who approach teaching with passion, creativity, and infectious enthusiasm, along with appropriate academic preparation for their fields; and
Whereas, Suzanne Koty, an outstanding English teacher at Sumter High School in the Sumter County School District, is indeed such an educator and richly deserves the honor of being named the 2015-2016 South Carolina Teacher of the Year. Ms. Koty formally received the award as part of a celebratory gala on April 22, 2015; and
Whereas, initially, Suzanne Koty worked as a medical assistant but found her career passion when she served as a substitute teacher in the Sumter County School District. She presently teaches English and the International Baccalaureate course called Theory of Knowledge; and
Whereas, her new title earned Ms. Koty twenty-five thousand dollars and a new BMW to use for one year. During 2015-2016, she will participate in a one-year residency program at the Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement and serve as a statewide ambassador for her profession; and
Whereas, the Senate, with great admiration and appreciation, is pleased to honor this exceptional educator and daughter of South Carolina, Suzanne Koty, as the Palmetto State's 2015-2016 Teacher of the Year, and the members join with her colleagues, students, family, and friends in extending best wishes for great success during her tenure as South Carolina's ambassador for public education. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, commend Suzanne Koty, English teacher at Sumter High School, for her commitment to providing quality education for the children of South Carolina and congratulate her upon being named the 2015-2016 South Carolina Teacher of the Year.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Suzanne Koty.
