TO HONOR BEN TWILLEY OF COLUMBIA FOR HIS OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA AS MAJORITY RESEARCH DIRECTOR FOR THE SENATE REPUBLICAN CAUCUS AND TO WISH HIM ALL THE BEST IN HIS NEW ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, from September 2011 to January of this year, Majority Leader Senator Harvey S. Peeler and the Senate Republican Caucus enjoyed the benefit of the dedication, experience, and leadership of Majority Research Director Ben Twilley, who resigned from his post on January 9, 2015; and
Whereas, raised in Graniteville, Columbia resident Ben Twilley graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2006. Having previously worked for the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce and for the House Ways and Means Committee as a budget analyst, Ben embarked on his new assignment as majority research director for the Senate Republican Caucus in 2011. At that time, he was tasked with researching and forming conservative legislation to help get our state's economy moving again. Well known as a man who understands South Carolina's business climate and the impact big government and high spending have on our economy, Ben was well fitted for his task; and
Whereas, while this Clemson fan worked as majority research director, his colleagues came to know him as a "fun guy to be around." (Yes, you heard that right; somehow Ben graduated from USC and yet managed to become a Clemson fan.) Away from the office, he gets a kick out of Antiques Road Show and hometown festivals. He loves good country cooking and demonstrates that affection as a frequent visitor to Compton's Kitchen. He works off the results of those visits to Compton's with an energetic game of golf; and
Whereas, moreover, friends and colleagues alike appreciate Ben Twilley as an encyclopedia of useless facts and a repository of strong fashion sense, especially when he smells a good bargain anywhere around; and
Whereas, understanding that Ben Twilley has accepted the position of senior manager--state affairs with Express Scripts, the members of the Senate wish to express their gratitude for his exemplary service to the people of South Carolina and wish him all the best as he takes on new responsibilities and challenges. He will be missed by his staff colleagues, as well as by his many friends in the South Carolina Senate. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, honor Ben Twilley of Columbia for his outstanding service to the State of South Carolina as majority research director for the Senate Republican Caucus and wish him all the best in his new endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Ben Twilley.
