TO CONGRATULATE TURNER MEMORIAL AFRICAN METHODIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH UPON THE OCCASION OF ITS ONE HUNDRED FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY, TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE CHURCH FOR ITS DEEP HERITAGE IN WEST COLUMBIA, AND TO COMMEND ITS LEADERSHIP AND CONGREGATION FOR THEIR MANY YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize and honor Turner Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Church as it celebrates this important milestone on Saturday, July 7, 2018; and
Whereas, Turner Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Church was founded in 1868. Since its inception, the church has transformed the lives of many of its members and has made a significant impact on its surrounding community; and
Whereas, located in a small, underserved town, the church aims to promote positive values and healthy family living by providing its diverse youth, senior citizens, and families with valuable life skills; and
Whereas, Turner Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Church is known as "the Church where everybody is somebody and Jesus the main attraction"; and
Whereas, the church currently flourishes under the leadership of Reverend Kenneth Taylor; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are grateful for the ministry of Turner Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Church and its service to the community of West Columbia and the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Turner Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Church upon the occasion of its one hundred fiftieth anniversary, recognize and honor the church for its deep heritage in West Columbia, and commend its leadership and congregation for their many years of service to the community.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Turner Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Church.
