TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 56-1-405 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT A PERSON WHOSE DRIVER'S LICENSE WAS SUSPENDED FOR A MOVING VIOLATION MUST COMPLETE A DEFENSIVE DRIVING COURSE BEFORE HIS PRIVILEGE TO OPERATE A MOTOR VEHICLE MAY BE REINSTATED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Article 1, Chapter 1, Title 56 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 56-1-405. Notwithstanding another provision of law, a person whose driver's license was suspended upon the conviction of a motor vehicle moving violation must complete successfully the National Safety Council's Defensive Driving Course or its equivalent before his privilege to operate a motor vehicle may be reinstated. The course must be taught by an instructor approved by the department."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
