TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR REVEREND LARRY DAVID MCCUTCHEON, PASTOR OF CAMDEN FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AFTER MORE THAN FORTY YEARS OF COMMENDABLE SERVICE TO HIS GOD, AND TO WISH HIM CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives have learned that Reverend Larry McCutcheon will begin a well-deserved retirement after more than forty years as a highly regarded minister, the last of which have been as the beloved pastor of Camden First United Methodist Church; and
Whereas, born in Lake City on March 28, 1950, Larry McCutcheon is the son of Samuel D. and Emma Cooper McCutcheon, and he earned a bachelor's degree from Claflin College in 1972, later serving his alma mater on the university's Board of Visitors.
Whereas, Reverend McCutcheon earned a master of divinity from the Interdenominational Theological Center in 1975 and studied at the Candler School of Theology; and
Whereas, he commenced his ministerial duties in 1974 with an appointment to the Williamston Charge, and after he was ordained in 1976, he was appointed to the Bamberg Parish. In 1980, he began serving the Orangeburg Wesley Foundation for students at Claflin University; and
Whereas, Reverend McCutcheon was appointed to serve Cumberland United Methodist Church in 1990, and in 1997 he became the superintendent of churches in the Charleston District; and
Whereas, in 1979, he married his beloved wife, Gloria Sanders, and together they reared two fine daughters, Carmen Jeanine McCutcheon and Priscilla McCutcheon; and
Whereas, Reverend McCutcheon has served his denomination in numerous posts, including on the Conference Board of Ordained Ministry, on the Conference Council on Ministries, on the Board of Trust for the Advocate newspaper, and on the Committee on Ecumenical and Interreligious Concerns; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the years of unparalleled dedication that Larry McCutcheon has devoted to serving God's people, and the members wish him many years of enjoyment in his well-earned retirement. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor Reverend Larry David McCutcheon, Pastor of Camden First United Methodist Church, upon the occasion of his retirement after more than forty years of commendable service to his God, and wish him continued success and happiness in all his future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Reverend Larry David McCutcheon.
