The Senate assembled at 2:00 P.M., the hour to which it stood adjourned, and was called to order by the PRESIDENT.
A quorum being present, the proceedings were opened with a devotion by the Chaplain as follows:
1 Samuel 12:23 NIV
"As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by failing to pray for you."
Let us pray. Almighty God, it is difficult to pray for those with whom we disagree, especially if we have decided that they are wrong. Yet that is precisely what You call us to do. Often we self-righteously neglect in our prayers the very people who need Your blessing and Your guidance.
Remind us O God, that You and You alone have the power to change the hearts and minds of people if we will earnestly and faithfully pray for them. Help us to resist the temptation to be judgmental and hostile towards those who have caused us harm. May we remember Your word that says, "Judgement is mine says the Lord" and help us to focus on healing and not hurting. In Your holy name we pray, Amen.
The PRESIDENT called for Petitions, Memorials, Presentments of Grand Juries and such like papers.
