A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-1-60 SO AS TO REQUIRE THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO APPROPRIATE FUNDS EACH YEAR FOR THE "CALL ME MISTER" PROGRAM.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Article 1, Chapter 1, Title 59 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 59-1-60.    Each year in the annual general appropriations act, the General Assembly shall appropriate at least five million dollars to the Department of Education for the 'Call Me Mister' program to increase the pool of available teachers from broader and more diverse backgrounds."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
